The fixed casters were mounted under one end of the cabinet when we attached the toe kick. To make sure the cabinet will sit steadily on the floor, even if the floor is not perfectly flat -- and few are -- we need to install adjustable leveling feet under the other end. These just arrived, so we'll install them today.
Adjustable levelers typically come in two varieties: one is adjusted from below with a small open end wrench, the other is adjusted through a hole in the cabinet floor. Since we will have no more than a 1/4" gap under the cabinet, the former type would be quite impractical so we'll install the latter type.
To do so, we must locate precisely where the hole in the cabinet bottom must be so that it can be as small and inconspicuous as possible. I did this by removing the foot from the leveler body, clamping the body in place and passing a small length of copper tubing that just happened to be exactly the right size to just fit through the threaded insert, down through the leveler body until it touched the cabinet bottom. A firm tap or two with a mallet and the tube left a slight ring in the wood where the hole needed to be drilled. Who needs lasers!
The levelers were then installed with glue and screws to insure they would support the weight.
The rest of the day was spent taking things apart again and sanding.
