If we were going to ship this island to it's new home by LTL truck, our next step would be to wrap the piece in Styrofoam and build a wooden crate to protect it in transit. But that is not the case this time.
Jim & Ruth live only two hundred miles from here, and we have something else we'd like to do while in their area, so delivering it to them ourselves makes sense for everyone.
But we can't just toss it in the back of our truck and take off. Well... we could... but it would not be the best thing to do. Traveling two hundred miles at interstate speeds in the back of an open pick-up means that it would be bombarded by all manner of road debris. Add to that a weather forecast that includes a good chance of rain and the potential for heart break increases. So we begin by wrapping it in packing blankets.
Then we cover it in a good tarp. But 70 mile an hour winds tend to pull coverings right off of the cargo, so I fix them in place with copious amounts of stretch-wrap.
We're expecting rain tonight, so there's no sense in loading up this evening, we'll wait til morning.
