Automation

Because we get so many link requests we have automated all but the web site review step of our link exchange process.  Our link machine helps expedite link exchanges, insure that exchanged links remain active, and remove dead links promptly.  If it finds our reciprocal link to be missing from your site it will send an e-mail to your last known address asking you to update the URL information.  We do recognize that web servers sometime experience troubles, so no web site will be removed for being "dead" unless it returns such a result for at least two weekly link checking cycles.

Your site's home page MUST have a Google PR of at least 3 to be considered.

If You Ask Us

It is accepted Internet Etiquette for the one asking for an exchange to post the first link.  Therefore, since you are asking us to exchange links with your site, you post the link to Smoky Mountain Woodworks on your web site, then use the [Add Link] function here or in the Resources pages to create a link to your site.  Select the appropriate category; links submitted to the wrong category will be rejected.  The Link Machine will notify me of your submission and I will review your site promptly with the above criteria in mind.  If acceptable, your reciprocal link will be activated immediately and an e-mail will be sent to let you know.

If you choose to bypass our Link Machine and e-mail us directly with a link exchange request, your message will get flagged as "To Do" and I'll get around to it... eventually.  Building furniture is my primary focus, maintaining our product and policy pages comes second, maintaining the links section is a spare time activity.  Make it easy for me and it will get done much faster.

There is a growing tendency for less than reputable SEO specialists to submit a link request using a reciprocal that is already active on a third party's web site.  This is NOT a reciprocal arrangement, and we will not participate in this sort of trickery.  The link pointing to our web site must come from the same web site you want us to point to.

Relevance is key.  The major search engines look at whether the sites you exchange links with are relevant to yours.  For a furniture maker's site, exchanging links with other furniture and woodworking sites, lumber suppliers, and woodworking magazines shows a high degree of relevance, thus getting a nod of approval from search engines.  A furniture site that exchanges links with used car sales sites, cabin rentals, casinos and theme parks will not.  See Ken Webster's article for details.

If We Ask You

We will post a link, title and description for your web site in the most appropriate category of our Resources section and send you an e-mail introducing ourselves.  This letter will contain linking information for our site, a link to your listing so you may review it and a link to our submission form.  Use this form to accept our invitation, make any changes you desire to the link information, and submit the URL of the reciprocal link from your site.  If you decline, or no reciprocal link appears on your web site within 30 days, we will remove the link to your site from our database.
