Over the Sink Cutting Board

Over sink cutting boardOriginally designed for Don H. of Boca Raton Florida, and reproduced for many others since then, this cutting board is made of 7/8" thick maple, finished with food safe mineral oil and milled with a recess around the two outer sides forming a lip that rests on the rim of the sink.  The board normally sits to the right side of the sink, leaving the rear-left corner of the sink open for disposal of cuttings and running water into the sink from the faucet.

This over sink cutting board is a handy way to save space and add convenience, especially in a kitchen that is short on counter space.  By cutting over the sink, vegetables can be washed and cut in one place and debris can be scraped off into the sink for disposal.

Natual wood contains an enzyme that fights bacteria, thus making it safer to use than plastic or polycarbonate boards which must be sanitized between uses.  Just lightly wash your wooden board with soapy water and dry.  An occasional re-oiling will keep your cutting board looking and working like new.  See [Care and Feeding of a Cutting Board] for details.

In order to custom tailor a board to your sink, we will need a template that you will supply, [click here] for instructions on making this template.  Pricing for this item is based on a triangular board for a sink opening of approximately 15 x 17 inches.  If your template is considerably larger or smaller the price will be adjusted proportionally.  Custom configurations are available, just tell us what you want.

For a special touch, we can add two or three narrow stripes of a contrasting wood; walnut or cherry both look good in a maple cutting board and remain food-safe. [Click Here] to see an example (A maple & walnut pizza board).
