This classic steamer trunk design by Rockler is as sturdy as it is beautiful.  It features brass plated steel hardware, leather lift handles, a spring trunk lock, and 95° stopped hinges.  The lift-out tray allows easy access to the bottom compartment.  Use it for general storage, as a hope chest, blanket chest, or foot locker.

Please note that if built according to the plan, this trunk is mostly plywood. We re-worked the design and use all hardwood.  Even the bottom of the trunk is built like a tongue & groove wooden floor.  See the Maple/Cherry picture below.

Shown at right is the plan photo, built of red oak with walnut trim with a natural finish.  This is traditional, but we can build it for you in any wood and finish you desire.  See examples below.  Choose bright brass or antique brass hardware, black leather strap handles are standard, russet leather or brass bail handles are optional.  Want something really unique?  Just ask!

Most of the trunks we've built have been shipped to a designer furniture store in Chicago, but several have gone to private homes, and one fellow wanted a trunk finished with epoxy so he could strap it to the shelf on the back of his antique automobile!
